Taliban militants suffer defeat in an attack on NRF forces in Takhar province
May 12, 2023 - The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) announced that it has repelled a widespread attack by Taliban militants on its forces in Takhar province, northeastern Afghanistan. The clash occurred on May 12 in the Chal district of Takhar province, where the Taliban used both light and heavy weapons in the attack.
According to a tweet by the National Resistance Front, this severe confrontation between Taliban militants and its forces lasted from Friday morning until evening. Despite taking some civilians as hostages, the Taliban were eventually forced to retreat from the area.
This is the first time this year that the National Resistance Front has reported a widespread attack by the Taliban on its forces in Takhar. The province has witnessed bloody clashes between Taliban fighters and resistance front forces in the past.
Last week, eight Taliban militants and three members of the resistance front were killed in the aftermath of an operation and clash between the two sides in the Khawaja Bahauddin district.
The current situation in northeastern Afghanistan remains tense as clashes between the Taliban terrorists and the anti-Taliban resistance front forces continue. The Taliban have not yet commented on the recent attack in Takhar.
Despite the ongoing violence, the National Resistance Front continues to resist the Taliban across several provinces and districts of Afghanistan, including the capitol city of Kabul.
The National Resistance Front (NRF) led by Commander Ahmad Massoud, is a diverse group made up of individuals united by their opposition to the Taliban's oppressive regime in Afghanistan. This includes former government officials, military officers, and local militias. These individuals have come together to defend their communities against the brutality of the Taliban, which include gender apartheid, public executions, floggings, forced marriages, discriminate distribution of humanitarian aid, forced displacements of indigenous ethnic groups such as Tajiks and Hazaras, and the list goes on.
The recent clash between the National Resistance Front and the Taliban in Takhar province is a stark reminder of the Taliban’s ongoing violence and human rights violations, which pose a serious threat to the international community as well as the people of Afghanistan.
The current state of Afghanistan is characterized by heightened tension and uncertainty as the Taliban continues to impose their extremist ideology on the people.
In contrast, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan remains steadfast in their commitment to reestablishing democracy and freedom for all citizens. The NRF seeks to achieve this goal by implementing a decentralized system of governance that guarantees fair representation for all ethnic and religious groups. In doing so, the NRF recognizes the importance of inclusivity and diversity in creating a stable and prosperous Afghanistan. The road ahead may be long and arduous, but the NRF remains resolute in their determination to create a better future for the people of Afghanistan.
While we strongly condemn the Taliban's actions, we also firmly support the efforts of the NRF in their fight against terrorism and extremist groups. The Taliban and its affiliates, including ISIS and other groups, have been given safe-haven by the Taliban, further destabilizing the country and threatening the security of all citizens of Afghanistan as well as global security.
It is imperative that the international community stands with the NRF and the people of Afghanistan to counter the Taliban's oppressive regime and support the establishment of a democratic, inclusive, and peaceful Afghanistan.
