Stand Against the Normalization of the Taliban: A Call to Action

Challenging Narratives, Upholding Human Rights, and Lobbying MPs

July 17, 2023 - In recent weeks, unsettling narratives surrounding the re-engagement with the Taliban have been gaining momentum. One such narrative comes from MP Tobias Ellwood, who advocates for re-engaging with the Taliban, a move that dangerously borders on normalizing their rule.

We view this narrative with grave concern. The Taliban's reign is marked by gender apartheid, blatant disregard and violations of the Doha Agreement, and ongoing atrocities against the people of Afghanistan. Our stance echoes the words of the NRF’s Head of Foreign Relations, who emphasizes the seriousness of the situation and the necessity of recognizing and addressing these challenges transparently.

Today, we've launched a call to action campaign to “#StopNormalizingTaliban”. We have prepared a series of letters that can be used as is, or as a reference, to send to your local MPs, outlining our collective concerns about these narratives. We urge you to adapt these letters, send them, and share your action on social media using the campaign hashtag.

Let's ensure the voices of the people are amplified and that the truth prevails. Let's come together for the people of Afghanistan and take a firm stand against normalizing the Taliban.

Your participation and advocacy can make a significant difference and we sincerely appreciate your assistance.
